“360-degree” is a term we are going to hear and see a lot this year, thanks to the interest garnered around VR-capable action cameras. We saw the Cube 360 followed by the OKAA SY15SPC being launched recently, both being capable of recording immersive 360-degree video. And now, popular action camera manufacturer Amkov has jumped into the virtual reality bandwagon as well, with the launch of the Amkov AMK100S.
The Amkov AMK100S action camera is equipped with a 8MP CMOS sensor and a Sunplus 6350 chipset that can capture VR-capable 360-degree video at 1440p (30fps) and 1080p (30fps) with image stabilization on tap too. Standard recording options include loop recording, time-lapse, etc. In addition, still images up to a resolution of 8MP can be captured as well, with storage of images and videos on a microSD card that needs to be bought separately.
As far as ports are concerned, the device gets a micro-HDMI, micro-USB and a microSD card slot. In addition, the device also sports a 0.96-inch notification screen to display useful information. As far as accessories go, you get a 30m waterproof case and a bunch of mounts included in the box.
You also get WiFi as standard, allowing you to control the camera and live-preview video from your Android or iOS smartphone. On the battery side of things, the Amkov AMK100S is loaded with a built-in 1000mAh Li-ion battery that is claimed to last for about 2 hours at 1440p after a full charge that takes about 2 hours to complete.
The Amkov AMK100S is surely going to gather steam as it approaches the shipping date of 28th April. You can pre-book yours now for under $130.
