Surprisingly, SJCAM makes its entry into the virtual reality space a little later than expected, what with the likes of Amkov, Elephone and other action camera marques already present in this nascent but exponentially growing segment. But hey, better late than never right! Coming to the product, SJCAM has named it the SJCAM SJ360. Let’s have a look at the spec-sheet first:
The SJCAM SJ360 action camera is equipped with a single 220-degree fisheye lens that can capture 360-degree video (360-degree horizontal and 220-degree vertical). The image sensor on this one is a 12MP Sony IMX078 CMOS sensor and the chipset is a Novatek 96660. The camera is capable of recording videos at a resolution of 2048p and 1440p at 30fps. In addition, still images up to a resolution of 4032 x 3024 can be captured as well, with storage of images and videos on a microSD card that needs to be bought separately. The SJ360 also comes equipped with a 0.96-inch notification screen.
Talking of additional features, the latest from SJCAM features multiple shooting modes, adjustable white balance, time-lapse, adjustable exposure, burst-mode, etc. Moreover, the device is WiFi-enabled, allowing you to live-preview video on your Android or iOS smartphone and control your camera right from your phone.
On the battery side of things, you get a removable 1050mAh battery that is claimed to last for about 2 hours at 2048p video recording. A full-charge takes about 2.5 hours to complete.
Inside the box, you get the camera of course, a USB cable, a car power adapter, a mount, an HDMI cable and an AV cable. The SJCAM SJ360 is available in white and black and can be yours for under $160 shipped.
In the meanwhile, you may head over to the reviews section for detailed reviews of other action cameras, including the VR-capable Elephone Elecam 360.
